This month, a special edition of Field Radio dedicated to the sound artist, Jo Lucas, who died last year after a 6 year battle with breast cancer. Jo was a friend and colleague, and this programme is made from a number of hers (and my) recordings of India and Mongolia. The connection to Brighton is not immediately obvious, but her work with the voice and sacred sounds is a testament to the power of field recording and the art of listening. This edition of Field Radio marks another first for us… The show begins in Kemp Town by the Hanbury Arms pub (which has a miniature spire modelled on the design of the Royal Pavilion) and finishes at the Royal Pavilion itself. We walk on opposite sides of the road, down St Georges Rd and St James St, taking in the ambience of the streets and allowing ourselves to be diverted en route; and we end up 48 minutes later in the centre of town at a famous Brighton landmark.
